Family and Child Inclusion

Hello, I am Karen Abbott. I am the Family and Child Inclusion Assistant at The Churchill School.

I joined Team Churchill as a Family Liaison Officer in 2014 and became the SENCo Assistant in 2015.

My role has now grown to promote inclusiveness and support school effectiveness so that all Churchill families and children irrespective of their individual backgrounds, circumstances or difficulties are able to derive the maximum benefit from their learning.

At The Churchill School we want everyone involved with our school to feel well supported. We believe that effective support focuses on nurturing the individual needs of each child. We aim to build trusting and empathic relationships with all our pupils and their families.

Sometimes life throws us some challenging stuff which can be difficult to deal with. I can help families during those difficult times, help to find a solution or point you in the right direction both at home or school.

If you are worried about your children at school and for whatever reason you are unable to speak with their teacher, you can get in touch with me and I will do what I can to help.

Supporting the needs of children and families sometimes involves working with external agencies. In these situations we ensure that a confidential, professional, non-judgemental and sensitive service is provided.

I have trained extensively to provide an inclusive support package including:

  • SEN
  • Draw and Talk
  • Youth Mental Health First Aider
  • Early Help
  • Lego Therapy
  • Scales of Justice
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Early Years and Secondary Transition
  • Family Therapy/Solution Focus Therapy/ Solihull

I am available in school Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.00pm. You can contact me in a number of ways:

Below I have included some links to websites where you can find advice, information and updates.
