Our Governors

Teresa Johnson (Co-Chair) - JohnsonT@churchill-hawkinge.kent.sch.uk

I’m really pleased to be a governor of such a lovely school. I am a retired teacher and have taught both in the U.K. and USA  I’m married to Chris Johnson. Between us we have 6 children and 4 grandchildren. I’m the Governor responsible for monitoring curriculum, maths and PHSE. Like Dorothy Douse, another Governor, I have a keen interest in the quality of teaching throughout the school. My family are my greatest passion but I do like walking our dogs and visiting new places. Visiting the USA is my favourite place to go since 2 of my children and 3 of my grandchildren live there.

I live locally to The Churchill School and have a background in teaching and school leadership. I taught for 35 years and was Headteacher of both The Marsh Academy and The Folkestone School For Girls. I have broad experience within education including serving as a governor of several local schools, as an Ofsted Inspector and as a National Leader of Education.

The Churchill School is a massively friendly, supportive and successful environment and I am very proud to be a very small part of it.

I am a Head of Department and Careers Lead  at a local secondary school with over 20 years of educational experience.

I love education in all forms and enjoy making the difference, no matter how big or small, to all children. Every child really does matter and I am thrilled to be able to help shape the direction of the school, and support the Senior Leadership in their journey. In my spare time I immerse myself in musicals, reading and spend as much time as possible with my family.

Chris Johnson

Hello. After working on construction projects in the UK and overseas I came to Folkestone in 1987 to work on the Channel Tunnel. I retired seven years ago but keep busy with being a Town Councillor, helping a Bomber Command history project and walking two dogs. My interests are blues music, singing, classic Land Rovers and supporting Hull City. Having served as a Governor at three other schools I was delighted to be invited to join the Governors at Churchill, where I am responsible for Training and Development, and have recently taken over as Chair.

Zoe Stone - Headteacher

I joined the school in 2002 where I started my journey as a Newly Qualified Teacher before eventually taking on the role of Headteacher in 2016.  I am passionate about the school and feel extremely proud to be part of such a great team. It is my belief that every child should have the opportunity to be the best they can be, to enjoy their schooling and achieve their full potential. Learning is for life and we aim to equip our children with the best skills to help them in their lives beyond The Churchill School.

The Churchill School is a fantastic local community school with happy and enthusiastic children; hardworking staff; a supportive community of parents and carers, and a very committed Governing body which I am proud to be part of and which I feel has a significant and positive impact on moving the school forward.

Katie Dullam - Year 6 Teacher, Maths Leader, Staff Governor

In 2018, I began my teaching career at this school as a Newly Qualified Teacher, where I taught in Year 1. I then spent two years teaching in Year 2 before moving to my current role teaching Amethyst Class in Year 6. Additionally, I now lead Maths across the school. I am passionate and committed to ensuring that every child has access to an engaging and inspiring curriculum.

I joined the governing body in April 2021, which has not only given me the opportunity to gain a broader understanding of the school’s operations and governance, but also an opportunity to contribute to the success of the school more generally. Being a part of such an incredible school community is truly a privilege, and I look forward to continuing to contribute towards the school's ongoing success.

David Clarke

After more than 23 years in secondary education, I'm now bringing my experience to the governing body. Much of my career was spent in pastoral care, where I focused on supporting disadvantaged students. I dedicated myself to identifying and removing the barriers that prevented them from fully engaging with their learning, ensuring every student had a fair chance to succeed.

Claire Grant

I have worked in further education for approximately 10 years, with a focus on SEN and inclusion. I manage a specialist provision across Kent for young people aged 16-25 with an EHCP to gain the skills they need in maths, English and employability to move into a career. As part of this I manage a contract with the East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust to increase the diversity of their workforce by employing young adults with a learning disability. I am privileged to be part of a team of Governors that collectively help the school ensure all children at The Churchill School achieve their full potential.

Sarah Wilson

I am a qualified SENCo and experienced teacher who worked at The Churchill from September 2018 until July 2022. I have expertise in the both the primary and Post-16 phases of education, where I am currently a SENCo and teacher at a specialist provision supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. I have two children of my own. I believe that the caring and welcoming nature of the school is key to its continued progress and I look forward to bringing my expertise onto the board.

Shezrazade, Maria

With a background in asset management and financial consultancy in London, I relocated to Dover 22 years ago to become a general manager for a local company.  After returning to university to pursue a combined BA/BSC in English and legal studies, I ran my own consultancy and now work as a multi-lingual interpreter and translator, while volunteering advocacy and support for marginalised and underprivileged individuals.  I also served as general secretary for the Canterbury mosque and community and continue to volunteer to raise funds for the local community, as well as undertaking school visits to support their curriculum on Islam and muslims, with plans to expand these efforts locally.  I am excited to be part of #teamchurchill !
