Churchill School delivered an outstanding performance to secure a convincing 4–1 victory over Castle Hill on a bright and sunny day, with a strong team display full of energy, quality and determination.
A sharp and enthusiastic warm-up set the tone, and Churchill carried that intensity straight into the match. They made a fast start, taking the lead early on through Finley, who timed his run perfectly to get in behind the defence before calmly slotting the ball home. It was a well-deserved goal for the captain on the day, who has been knocking on the door in every game this season. The whole team celebrated with him, clearly pleased to see his efforts rewarded.
Churchill continued to apply pressure, with Hudson making an excellent start in goal. He came off his line confidently to meet Castle Hill’s forwards, gathering the ball cleanly and making himself big to block shots, even tipping one over the bar to keep the lead intact.
In midfield, Ronnie and Austin controlled the game superbly, threading passes into Josh, Finley and Freddie W, who made dangerous runs and delivered teasing balls into the box. It wasn’t long before the lead was doubled - another brilliant through ball found Finley, who finished clinically for his second. His celebration was full of energy, showing just how much it meant.
At the back, Leon, Leo and Jacob were rock solid, dealing with everything thrown at them and keeping the opposition attack quiet with disciplined and effective defending.
Before the break, Finley completed a superb hat-trick. Racing onto another attacking move, he fired the ball across goal and into the net with pace and precision. It was a first half hat-trick full of quality, capping off a dominant opening period. Churchill went into half-time 3–0 up, recharging with some well-earned watermelon before heading back out.
Castle Hill started the second half strongly and managed to pull a goal back early on with a well-taken finish. However, Churchill showed great character, refusing to let their heads drop and staying focused on the task.
Ronnie took control of the midfield, dictating play and continuing to feed the forward line, who worked tirelessly to put the Castle Hill defence under pressure. Hudson remained outstanding in goal, producing a remarkable diving save that seemed destined for the net. It was a top-class stop - one that underlined his performance, which was nothing short of Premier League quality and crucial in keeping Churchill in control.
Toby made a brilliant impact in midfield, getting stuck in, chasing down loose balls and making important challenges in and around the box. Up front, Freddie W, Josh and Finley continued their relentless work rate, stretching the defence even if a fourth goal proved elusive for much of the half.
That fourth goal eventually came in spectacular fashion. Ronnie picked up the ball around halfway, drove forward into space and, from outside the box, struck the ball with power and precision into the net - an outstanding finish to cap a brilliant individual and team performance.
Defensively, Leon, Leo and Jacob continued to impress, closing down quickly and giving Castle Hill’s attackers no time on the ball.
The match finished 4–1 to Churchill, a well-earned victory built on teamwork, resilience and real quality. Attention now turns to next week’s home fixture against All Souls, where the team will look to deliver another strong performance in front of what promises to be a big crowd.
