Match Report: The Churchill School vs Mundella
Final score: The Churchill School 15 - 0 Mundella
The Churchill School continued their impressive form with a dominant 15–0 victory over Mundella in an entertaining match played in front of a large and supportive crowd.
The Churchill girls arrived full of energy and determination, eager to build on the momentum from their previous match. After a quick warm-up - which amusingly included goalkeeper Lilly accidentally striking Mr Stone from close range while he warmed her up - the team were ready to begin.
From the opening whistle, Churchill started brightly, moving the ball quickly and confidently. Their fluid passing allowed them to work the ball around the Mundella players effectively, and it wasn’t long before Churchill opened the scoring. A second goal quickly followed as the team continued to dominate possession.
Despite the early pressure, the Mundella goalkeeper produced several excellent saves, bravely collecting the ball at the feet of Esmee and preventing Churchill from extending their lead even further in the early stages.
At the back, Evie, Manda and Lexi were solid and dependable in defence. They consistently stopped any Mundella attacks and progressed the ball forward well, allowing Churchill to maintain pressure and create further opportunities. Goals from Freya, Jaycee and Esmee helped Churchill build a commanding lead, and by half-time the score stood at 8–0.
The second half saw Churchill make a few positional changes, but the team’s energy and commitment remained just as strong. Kiesza came on and made an immediate impact, tirelessly covering the pitch and rewarding her hard work with two well-deserved goals.
Up front, Imogen showed great composure, scoring two clinical goals. After the match she mentioned that she had never scored before, making the moment even more special. Her performance was a testament to her dedication in both matches and training, and she should be extremely proud of her achievement.
Manda delivered an outstanding all-round performance, scoring a hat-trick from centre-back, including two incredible long-range strikes that nestled perfectly into the bottom corner. Combined with helping secure a clean sheet, it was a fantastic display that delighted her family watching from the sideline.
To their credit, Mundella continued to battle throughout the second half, showing determination and resilience as they worked hard to progress up the pitch and create opportunities of their own.
In goal, Lilly performed well, organising her defence and communicating clearly throughout the match. Lexie also added her name to the scoresheet with a well-worked team goal finished calmly from close range.
Jaycee capped off an excellent performance with a hat-trick, gliding past defenders and finishing her chances with both power and composure.
At the final whistle, Churchill ran out 15–0 winners, a result that reflected the hard work and teamwork shown by the players throughout the game.
It must also be said that great sportsmanship was shown by both teams. Churchill remained supportive and respectful, while Mundella stayed positive and continued encouraging one another despite the scoreline.
A special thank you also goes to the pupils who came back on a Friday evening to support their friends and school from the sidelines. Their encouragement created a fantastic atmosphere and was greatly appreciated by the team.
Both teams left the pitch with their heads held high, knowing they had given their best, never gave up, and supported one another - exactly what school sport is all about.
