Y5-6 Football Tournament

Report of the day
Morning Games
Game 1 – Draw 1–1
The first match saw us go a goal down early, but the team showed great determination to fight back. Towards the end of the game, a long pass from Henry found Louie, who finished brilliantly with a lovely volley to earn us a well-deserved point.
Game 2 – Loss 1–0
The second game saw some excellent running and effort from Henry throughout. Unfortunately, a last-minute goal from the opposition saw them take the win, but we were right in the game against a very strong team and pushed them all the way.
Game 3 – Loss 2–1
Toby scored a well-deserved goal after working tirelessly across the pitch. Louie made a fantastic run to keep the ball in play which helped create the chance. Toby’s overall play was excellent, but despite our efforts we fell to a 2–1 loss in a match where a draw would have been a fair result.
Game 4 – Win 4–2
We started explosively, with Harry firing the ball forward to Henry who scored from long range. Harry then moved into defence and was an absolute brick wall, beating players in foot races and sending long balls forward while keeping the danger away from our goal.
Henry grabbed his second goal after some excellent team passing and fluid football. Louie then produced a moment of magic with an incredible bicycle kick that had everyone watching screaming – what a goal! Leo was outstanding at the back, getting stuck in, clearing the ball and showing no fear. Louie added another goal to secure a fantastic 4–2 win.
Game 5 – Loss 2–1
This was another very tight game where we battled hard for a draw, but the opposition scored in the final seconds. We deserved more from the match. Louie scored for us with a deflected effort and even lost his boot in the process!
Game 6 – Loss 3–0
We faced a very strong side in the final morning game. Despite the result, the players battled hard and stayed committed throughout the match.
After the morning session we had a well-earned lunch break and a kickabout to reset for the afternoon. During the warm-up Toby even commented on the “tekkers from Mr Stone” as the team prepared to go again.
Afternoon Games
Game 1 – Win 2–1
The afternoon started perfectly when Toby scored an early goal to get us going. A lovely cross later found Louie, who finished confidently for another goal – he was unstoppable in front of goal.
Game 2 – Loss 2–1
Leo and Harry were very strong at the back, while Atti made countless well-timed tackles. Unfortunately, we conceded another late goal which resulted in a 2–1 loss. Once again we were unlucky, as we deserved more from the match.
Game 3 – Draw 1–1
The team came out determined to push for a win. Rowan and Dante worked tirelessly up and down the pitch, and Dante scored a fantastic looping goal over the goalkeeper to earn us a draw.
Game 4 – Win 3–0
Rowan scored a well-deserved goal as the team really started to click. Henry was everywhere across the pitch, while Jackson threaded some excellent passes through to the front line. Louie added another goal – this one coming from a slightly controversial handball decision – before Toby capped things off with a brilliant free kick. Toby worked incredibly hard all day and truly deserved his goals, anchoring the midfield brilliantly.
Game 5 – Draw 0–0
This match was a strong defensive battle. Leo and Harry once again stood firm at the back and kept the opposition at bay, earning us a well-fought clean sheet.
Game 6 – Draw 0–0
Our final game was against a team that had won all of their matches. The boys were determined to keep them out and worked incredibly hard across the pitch to do so. Everyone ran tirelessly to defend as a team.
Jacob had plenty to do in goal and was outstanding, making saves and launching big clearances up the pitch to put pressure on their defence.
Overall, the team showed fantastic effort, determination, and teamwork throughout a long day of football. The players never stopped working for each other and produced some brilliant moments, including long-range goals, excellent passing football, strong defending, and an unforgettable bicycle kick.
