The Churchill School v Cheriton Primary
Match Report
Cheriton Primary vs The Churchill School
Result: 6–1 Loss (Away)
It was time for our Herald Cup fixture away at Cheriton the children were ready to battle against a side we knew would be strong and one of the favourites to win the tournament.
Adding a bit of humour to the day, our team mascot was present in the form of Miss B, who had forgotten her change of clothes after World Book Day and arrived dressed as Eeyore!
Cheriton took an early lead from a well timed finish before adding a second not long after from the penalty spot. Despite the setback, the team showed great determination to fight back. Ronnie and Leo worked tirelessly in midfield, refusing to give the opposition any time on the ball and helped to move play forward.
Their efforts paid off as we began to build some strong attacking moves. Finley ran onto everything played forward, creating chances with well-placed crosses and winning multiple corners. It wasn’t long before we were rewarded, with Freddie W finishing well to pull the score back to 2–1 and give us belief that we were right back in the game.
Unfortunately, a third goal just before half-time meant we went into the break facing an uphill battle.
After making a few changes at half-time, the team came out determined to give everything in the second half. They battled throughout, playing our way, supporting each other and never losing belief.
Freddie O put in a strong performance in midfield while Austin gave his all across the pitch. At the back, Hudson, Leon and Jacob worked tirelessly, fighting for every ball and refusing to give up when it would have been easy to do so.
Finley continued to cause problems for the opposition and came close to scoring several times in the second half - another game where he certainly deserved a goal for his efforts. Ellis also worked incredibly hard throughout, covering the pitch and never stopping.
Unfortunately, the ball just didn’t fall our way and Cheriton were able to add three more goals to finish the game 6–1 winners.
Despite the result, the team gave absolutely everything against a very strong side. They walked away with their heads held high, knowing they had battled hard, supported each other, and played with great determination throughout.
