Match Report: The Churchill School vs Castle Hill

Final Score: The Churchill School 11-0 Castle Hill

It was a wet and foggy afternoon as we welcomed Castle Hill for a friendly, but the conditions weren't going to deter us! We headed out to warm up and prepared to treat this like any other game. The ball was skidding across the wet grass, and we knew we would need to adapt to the slippery conditions.

Before we get started, I apologise if anything is in the wrong order or if I have forgotten a moment or two. I have tried my best, but as you can imagine from the scoreline, there were plenty of goals and key moments to remember!

Before kick-off, I had a quick word with Franky and Harley, telling them that I had a feeling they were both going to score today. I had a good feeling about this one, and I wasn't going to keep it to myself!

We started quickly, applying pressure to Castle Hill and looking to win the ball back high up the pitch. We had a couple of shots that went just wide, but the boys were working hard off the ball and making sure that we were constantly on the front foot. Freddie, Franky, Josh and Parker were driving us forward, looking dangerous whenever we got into attacking positions.

Parker worked brilliantly down the right-hand side, driving forward with the ball and delivering some dangerous crosses into the box. It wasn't long before one of our attacks led to the opening goal. The ball fell to Franky in the middle of the box, and he wound up and smashed his shot towards goal. In the blink of an eye, the ball rebounded off the post and fell perfectly to Josh, who calmly slotted it home.

A classic Josh finish! Always in the right place at the right time, he showed exactly why you can never afford to switch off when he is around the goal.

It wasn't long before we worked our way forward again, and Harley smashed the ball into the top corner with a spectacular finish. What a goal! Even better, it came just as his family arrived to watch. The timing couldn't have been better!

At the other end, Josh and Toby were absolutely superb at the back. Nothing seemed to get past them, and every time they won possession, they looked to spring forward and launch another counter-attack. They read the game brilliantly, made multiple exceptional tackles and ensured Castle Hill struggled to find any way through.

We made a few changes, and Austin came on and immediately worked hard, pressing the opposition and driving us forward. He delivered numerous crosses into the box and helped us maintain the pressure.

It wasn't long before the inevitable happened again. Josh picked up the ball, made a lovely run down the left wing and finished to score his second goal of the game. He was looking dangerous every time he got on the ball.

Freddie came off, and Franky moved into the centre to finish the half. He worked hard, making excellent tackles and playing some great passes to ensure we maintained our momentum.

Half-time arrived with the boys having put in a fantastic first-half performance. We had a quick chat, discussed a few tactical adjustments and looked at how we could continue to cause Castle Hill problems. We made a slight change to our pressing approach and headed back out ready to go again.

Little did we know that we were about to score eight goals in the second half!

We started the half positively, and it wasn't long before Franky got his moment. He picked up the ball just inside the box, composed himself and smashed it into the corner of the net.

GOAL! Franky had his goal!

His reaction said it all. Relief, excitement and a huge release of emotion all rolled into one. He was absolutely beaming, and the rest of us were just as proud of him. I had told him before the game that I thought he would score, and he had delivered!

Freddie also started the half brilliantly, and you could sense that a goal was coming. He found his opportunity and finished with real class, getting the goal his performance deserved.

Of course, Josh wasn't going to let the afternoon pass without getting involved again. He drove forward once more and smashed the ball into the side netting, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

Josh had completed his hat-trick!

Louie was excellent throughout. Although he had relatively little to do in goal, he dealt with everything that came his way confidently. As captain, he was also superb, commanding from the back, organising his teammates and constantly offering encouragement. Leadership isn't just about making saves or scoring goals, and Louie showed exactly what it means to lead a team.

Josh wasn't finished there, either. He found the net again to take his tally to four goals, capping off an excellent individual performance. He was always looking to get involved, working hard for the team and making the most of his opportunities.

Parker continued to impress down the right. He worked tirelessly, grew into the game and repeatedly drove at the Castle Hill defenders. His dangerous crosses caused problems throughout, and on another day, several of them could easily have resulted in even more goals.

Freddie found himself in another pocket of space inside the box and, with a lovely touch and plenty of skill, finished neatly to add another goal to the tally.

Franky then got his second of the afternoon with another well-taken finish. He was absolutely beaming! He had worked so hard for his goals, pressing relentlessly, chasing down the ball and showing a real determination to win possession back. To see that hard work rewarded with two goals was fantastic.

At the back, Toby and Henry were once again pure class. They worked tirelessly to win the ball, made important tackles and never looked like allowing Castle Hill back into the game. Their defending gave the team the confidence to push forward, knowing that we were solid behind them.

Harley continued to work hard and came close to getting his second goal, only for an excellent block from a Castle Hill defender to deny him. He also spent some time on the left wing, where the link-up play was excellent and helped us maintain control of the game.

Austin kept working hard, and eventually the ball fell to him in the centre of the box. He made no mistake, smashing it home to score a goal he had already told me he was going to get!

Another prediction fulfilled!

There was still time for Toby to get himself on the scoresheet. He picked up the ball and drove almost the entire length of the pitch, riding tackles, powering past opponents and refusing to be stopped. After taking on what felt like half the Castle Hill team, he wound up and smashed the ball home.

The celebration said it all: a huge smile from ear to ear, a little “yes!” and a clenched fist. A fantastic moment for Toby after another brilliant performance at the back.

As the final whistle approached, the boys continued to work hard for one another, maintaining their intensity and looking to play the Churchill way. Nobody was selfish, everyone contributed and the team kept pushing forward together.

The final whistle confirmed an incredible 11–0 victory for Churchill.

And, of course, Franky and Harley were quick to remind me that they had both scored, just as I had predicted before the game!

It was another outstanding team performance. We scored some fantastic goals, defended brilliantly, pressed with real intensity and showed excellent teamwork throughout. Every player played their part, whether that was scoring goals, creating chances, winning tackles, making saves or encouraging their teammates.

This is exactly the kind of performance we need to take into our upcoming game against Sandgate. If we can carry this confidence, work ethic and togetherness into that fixture, we give ourselves a real chance of getting a result.

A huge well done to all the boys. They should be incredibly proud of what they produced, particularly in such difficult weather conditions.

The goals were fantastic, but the best thing about this performance was the way everyone worked for each other and played as a team.

11 goals, a clean sheet and a brilliant afternoon for Churchill.

Come on, Churchill!
