                             Impact Statement 2016/2017

Our amazing hockey players pictured taking a moment out of their busy tournament to reflect on a brilliant day of sports development.

The Churchill School is a large two form entry school in Hawkinge with a short but rich history of sports achievement. Our primary goal has always been to provide opportunities for all children to enjoy sport, stay healthy and learn valuable skills which will help them develop physically and emotionally.

We received £9797 in government sports funding for the year 2016/2017. A large amount of this went to the Shepway Sports Trust (£1500) with a further £9471 going towards quality sports coaching. This takes us above our government funding which reflects the popularity of sport at The Churchill School and the importance it plays within the school.

We have also run inter school competitions with Hawkinge Primary in Netball (Years 5 and 6), Cricket (Years 3 and 4) and Mini Athletics (Years 1 and 2). This gave all our KS1 and KS2 children the chance to compete for the school.

Additionally we ran a Dance showcase in the same year group teams which gave all children the chance to perform to a brand new audience.

There have been many successes this year with sport.

The District sports team did incredibly well and brought home 2 Gold Medals. The football team came third in the Herald Cup winning their third place playoff 5-2 playing against Hythe Bay. The hockey team came third in their tournament and the cricket team continued to improve coming third in their regional table.

Our aims for next year are to grow the children’s interest in out of school sports clubs with a specific focus on sports other than football which is a strong area already.
