Music
Our Music Curriculum
At The Churchill School we recognise the importance Music plays in the curriculum and beyond. We understand that Music provides opportunity for personal expression and growth and the integral part it can play in developing the whole child. Our Music lessons encourage children to be creative, imaginative and confident learners. We aim to ensure all pupils:
· Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
· Learn to sing and to use their voices and play a variety of instruments.
· Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated.
Our Music lessons are planned using the Get Set 4 Music platform, which aligns with our core values and the objectives laid out in the National Curriculum. Get Set 4 Music is planned so that progression is built into the scheme, which ensures our children are increasingly challenged as they move up through the school.
To further incorporate music into the curriculum we hold our annual Music Day, the children partake in a day exploring the world of music. There is an opportunity for all children to listen to live music, play instruments, sing songs and compose their own music.
Music in the community
We are passionate to share our love for music and grasp any opportunities to collaborate with other schools. We have enjoyed visits to the local care home, community centre and supermarkets to showcase our talent and give back to the community. We have also partnered with Folkestone college and Canterbury college, to share their incredible resources and enjoy some wonderful workshops.
Clubs
Children can attend a variety of clubs to develop their music skills, this includes; weekly instrumental piano and guitar lessons and a weekly choir club.
