Kent Children’s University TM (KCU) is a county wide scheme supported by Kent County Council and is part of the National Children’s University. Although called a university the scheme is designed for all ability levels. Every child, as long as they “Try their best” will be able to gain credits in their Passport to Learning. KCU aims to formally recognise, reward and celebrate the commitment that young people (aged 5 -14) make in attending extra curricular activities. These activities can be before school, at lunch time, after school, at weekends and in school holidays.
In 2011 over 5000 participants across the county took part in a KCU event. They experienced new and exciting opportunities by taking part in a varied menu of activities, met new friends, gaining self confidence, developed an understanding that learning doesn’t just occur in school and improved their self esteem, all whilst working towards special achievement national certificates.
